Ursus spelaeus Rosenmuller & Heinroth.
Partial scapula of an adult Cave Bear showing the socket for the humerus head. At the distal end on both surface there are circular depressed areas of bone. This is where the bone has been bitten by a predator. Almost certainly a large cat (Leopard or Cave Lion). On one surface at the proximal end are a series of drilled holes of different sizes. These are the result of beetle predation on a carcase. Superb example.
Pleistocene, Devensian.
Srbsko, Czech Republic.
Bone : 11 cm long.
