Ursus spelaeus Rosenmuller & Heinroth 1784.
Lower right jaw of a Cave bear. This specimen comes from a Victorian French collection. but is probably several hundred yeas older. It is encrusted with cave deposits. The varnish is typical of Victorian specimens.. What is particularly interesting is a stamp made into the varnish .it depicts a rising sun. This is associated with the French KIng, Louis XIV known as the,'The Sun King' .Cave Bear remains from the Tarn district are extremely rare.
