BIRD LIMB BONE - LOWER PLEISTOCENE, HUNGARY.


Bird - probably Falcon.

The distal half of a lower leg bone (tarsometatarsus) from what is probably a Falcon . Found in Pleistocene fissure fill in a quarry face. These deposits contain high numbers of shrews, voles and mice remains all of which would be prime prey for a bird of prey. Bird bones are very delicate and rarely survive into the fossil record.

Lower Pleistocene, Middle Villafranchian.
Beremend, Villany Mountains, Hungary.

Specimen : 2.3 cm. long.
